What is RSS and its benefit?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication." An RSS feed is a way to distribute a list of headlines, update notices to web users.
PBIS.org provides a summary of web content such as presentation files, conference information, and video files, along with links to full version of content. When you subscribe to PBIS.org RSS feed by using a feed reader, you will receive a summary of new content from PBIS.org. The advantage of the RSS feed is that it prevents the user from having to repeatedly checking site to see if there is new content.
How do I set up RSS reader for PBIS.org?
You must use a RSS reader to subscribe to PBIS.org RSS website feed. The following will introduce you several options to enable a RSS feed.
- Using free RSS reader softwares: There are many free software to read RSS. You can search Google and search for an appropriate RSS reader for you and follow instructions for download and installation. Please note that the URL address for the PBIS RSS is 'http://feeds.feedburner.com/PBISNewsFeed'. The following is an example of PBIS RSS set up using 'RSSreader.'
- Download and install RSSreader from http://www.feedreader.com/
- Go to 'File' in the menu bar and choose 'Feed' under 'New' (File > New > Feed)
- Enter 'http://feeds.feedburner.com/PBISNewsFeed' in the blank box to add PBIS RSS feed service
- Click 'PBIS NEWS FEED' on the left-side to check updated items from PBIS.org
- Using web browser: Many web browsers support an RSS feed. When you click "PBIS RSS Service," Internet Explorer or FireFox will show you 'Subscribe to this feed' option. After choosing that option, you can make your own folder and save 'PBIS NEWS FEED.' You will be able to check for PBIS updates through RSS which is under 'Favorite Center (star mark on the left side)' and 'Feeds.'
- Using Outlook (for Outlook 2007 version or later):
- Launch your outlook and go to "Account Settings" (Tools > Account Settings).
- Click the 'RSS feed' tab and choose 'new.'
- In the blank box, please enter 'http://feeds.feedburner.com/PBISNewsFeed'
- Click 'Add' button.
- Leave the RSS feed options as default and click 'OK' button
- Close the 'Account Setting'
- Check 'RSS Feed' on the left side menu of the Outlook
- Using Apple Mail for Mac Users:
- Click the plus mark '+' on the left-bottom of the Apple Mail.
- Choose 'Add RSS Feeds'
- Choose 'Specify a custom fee URL' and put 'http://feeds.feedburner.com/PBISNewsFeed' on the blank box
- Click 'Add' button
- Check if 'PBIS NEWS FEED' is on the left side of your Apple Mail
- Subscribe to RSS by email: Click the following link to subscribe. PBIS NEWS FEED will be delivered to you via email.
